About Our Beds
Your bed is one of the most important purchases you can make. You'll spend more time using it than anything else you'll ever buy. For this reason all of my beds are handmade to order and have the following features that ensure they will last for a lifetime of daily use.
- 100% solid hardwood construction. For example, cherry means solid cherry not cherry veneer on particleboard or a "cherry finish" on a cheaper wood.
- Mortise and tenon joints are used for all bed rail to post joints. These joints are extremely strong and keep the bed from racking or squeaking.
- Special bolts that are not visible from the outside of the bed rails or posts hold the mortise and tenon joints together securely yet permit easy disassembly for shipping and moving.
- All bed designs can be made in platform style for mattress or futon only or non-platform style for boxspring & mattress.
- Platforms on platform beds are 2" wide solid hardwood slats with about 1" between each slat. Slats sit in individual pockets in a ledger strip attached to the side rails so they don't shift around. This platform construction provides ample support for conventional, foam and futon mattresses.
- Boxsprings on non-platform beds are supported by extremely rugged 1/4" thick angle iron brackets on all sides.
- All king size beds include a center support beam and leg in the center of the bed. This gives added support for split boxsprings on non-platform beds and keeps slats from sagging on platform beds. Center support is optional on queen and full size beds.
- All beds are built to order by us in our Vermont workshop based on the thickness of your mattress or mattress and boxspring. The headboard is placed at the proper height based on these dimensions. Your pillows won't be able to easily slip between the top of the mattress and the bottom of the headboard nor will they complete hide the headboard. We can also adjust the height from the floor to the top of your mattress.
- All beds are warranteed against defects in materials and workmanship for the lifetime of the original purchaser.
