How to place an order

Ordering Online
The quickest and easiest way to order is to use the shopping cart on this website. Choose from the various options for the piece you are ordering and then click the "Add to Cart" button. When you are finished adding items click "Check Out Now" in the shopping cart. To view your shopping cart at any time click "Shopping Cart" in the link menu at the top of the page.
Preferred payment method: In an effort to keep the price of my furniture as reasonable as possible I am encouraging payment by check online. This payment method eliminates credit card processing fees while still allowing immediate payment online. While you can certainly pay by credit card if you'd like I encourage you to consider choosing "Order by check online" when picking a payment method in the check out process. This not an electronic transfer from your checking account. The information you provide allows me to print out a physical paper check that will be deposited like a regular check and clear through your bank account in the usual manner.

Telephone Orders
You can also order by phone by calling 802-387-4416. If you have any questions before you place your order this is a good option. Also if you want to customize a standard piece or order a completely custom piece it's best to order by phone.

Ordering In Person
You can also visit my workshop and showroom in Putney, Vermont and order in person. For driving directions click "Visiting the Shop" in the "About" menu at the top of the page. We're only 2 miles off of I-91 exit 4 in Vermont and welcome your visit even if you're not ordering right away.

Email Orders
While we can take your order information by email (what pieces, name, address, phone number, etc.) you will need to call with your payment information or mail a check. Do not email your credit card information as email is not a secure method for doing so.

Payment Terms

We require a 50% deposit when your order is placed with the balance plus shipping and/or tax due upon completion prior to shipping. Your order is not considered official or put on our construction schedule until we have received your deposit. For orders of multiple pieces, the balance due on each piece is due upon completion of that piece. In the case of a dining table and chairs, the balance on the table is due when the table is completed and the balance on the set of chairs is due when they are completed. When the entire order is completed the shipping charges are due. All payments for furniture, shipping charges and any tax due must be received before your order ships. Orders that are picked up at our workshop or are delivered or shipped to Vermont addresses are subject to Vermont sales tax of 6%.

Lead Time

All of our furniture is built to order and in general we schedule furniture to be built in the order it was received. However, sometime it makes sense to batch several orders together to increase production efficiency. This is particularly true with chair orders. If someone orders only 1 chair we may wait until another order of chairs comes in before making the single chair. It's also possible that we're about to make a set of chairs when a single chair is ordered and it makes sense to make it right away. We will also sometimes push an order ahead of schedule if we happen to have the wood for that order but don't yet have the wood for an earlier order. In general, you can expect your furniture to be completed and ready for shipping about 12-16 weeks after your deposit is received. NOTE: WE HAVE BEEN EXTREMELY BUSY EVER SINCE THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC HIT AND LEAD TIMES ARE LONGER THAN USUAL. WE ARE OPERATING AT FULL CAPACITY WHILE TAKING CARE TO STAY SAFE AND MAKE SURE THE FURNITURE IS BUILT TO THE SAME HIGH STANDARDS WE HAVE ALWAYS MAINTAINED.

Returns Policy


I have been building furniture since 1982 and have not had a single piece of my furniture returned. However, I realize that making a large purchase on the internet makes some people uneasy. For this reason I will accept returns in certain cases:

If for any reason you are not fully satisfied with a standard, non-customized piece of my furniture you may return it within 30 days of delivery for a refund of the purchase price less a 10% restocking charge. You must pay for return shipping and I do not refund your original shipping costs. Returned furniture must be in resellable condition. Any cost incurred in returning your furniture to resellable condition will be deducted from your refund. You must call for a return authorization before returning any furniture. I do not accept returns of any customized furniture. In addition, once work has begun on a custom piece of furniture you will be charged for work done, including design time, if you decide to cancel the order.
