Custom cherry entertainment center for flat panel tv
This entertainment center is about as customized as a piece can be. I don't think there was anything about it that was standard. It was centered around a 42" plasma TV that was on a lift that dropped the TV into the back of the base cabinet (see photo below). The taller base cabinet on the right housed all of the audio and video components. This cabinet was vented at the top to prevent the components from overheating. There are two large speakers behind fabric grilled doors in the main lower section. Other speakers were in the ceiling in the back of the room. Much of the remaining space in the lower cabinet was used for CD storage. The wood grill in the baseboard is an inlet for the return duct of the central air conditioning system. Lights were built into the top of the upper shelves. To further complicate things there was a structual 6x6 post that had to be incorporated into the piece. This post is just to the left of the components cabinet and was built into the tapered column. There was a large chase for wires in the back of the lower section to allow for the tremendous amount of wiring necessary for all the components. This entertainment center took me an entire summer to design, build and install. We also build the kitchen for this house. The kitchen, although relatively small in size, was just as complicated and customized as the entertainment center.
